Seismic strengthening of a 2 story (AGE) unreinforced masonry building in Dunedin’s warehouse precinct, constructed over uncontrolled harbour reclamation. Design of raft slab to support the entire weight of the building. Creation of diaphragms in the roof and intermediate floors and bracing design.
The structural design and documentation for a proposed child care facility building. The building was architecturally designed and is around 680m2. Our scope was to develop the structure based on the architect’s drawings and design all of the structural components including the foundation on a site with poor ground conditions. SEDS also undertook construction observations.
Lyndsay is a co-founder and director of Structural Engineering Design Solutions.
Lyndsay has 18 years’ experience in structural and civil engineering. Prior to completing his Bachelor of Engineering with honours in 1999 he worked as a self-employed builder and worked on a variety of residential construction.
Lyndsay also has a Batchelor of Science and a Post Graduate Diploma in mathematics. In 2011 he became a Member of Engineering New Zealand was registered as a Chartered Professional Engineer (structural and civil). Lyndsay has wide ranging experience in design and assessment of buildings and bridges, one of his specialisations is carrying out detailed seismic assessments, using Finite Element modelling software to carry our response spectra analysis.
Lyndsay is Structural Engineering Design Solutions Principal Engineer, his background as a builder gives him practicality and his attention to detail make him a highly effective reviewer which ensures quality output of all designs and documentation.
Kieran is a co-founder and director of Structural Engineering Design Solutions.
Kieran has 11 years engineering experience. He first graduated from Otago Polytechnic in 2006 with a Diploma in Civil Engineering, and again in 2012 when he completed a Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering, specialising in structures and also transportation. Kieran has wide ranging experience, starting his career as a Structural Technician working primarily on bridge projects for local authority clients across New Zealand and also in Fiji. In 2013 Kieran took a new role as a Structural Engineer in the field of specific engineering design for residential and commercial buildings and earthquake assessments. Kieran is a member of Engineering New Zealand, in 2018 he was registered as a Chartered Professional Engineer (structual).
Kieran has co-authored two published articles about the seismic vulnerability of Dunedin buildings.
Rhys has almost 4 years of engineering experience, he completed his Bachelor of Engineering Technology in 2014 specialising in structures, and is a Member of Engineering New Zealand. His skills include structural design and documentation including finite element modelling of structures, as well as inspection and construction observations.
Rhys has very good hands on skills, and is adept at working with timber and steel, which makes him highly proficient in the detailing and production of structural CAD drawings.
Rhys has worked for Structural Engineering Design Solutions since its inception in 2015 and is working towards the goal of becoming a Chartered Professional Engineer.
Gary completed a Bachelor of Engineering with Honours from the University of Canterbury in 2017 with a major in structural engineering. He is a Member of Engineering New Zealand.
Gay’s final year project at university on “Floor system design in multi-storey timber residential buildings” was sponsored by BRANZ, and received a Commendation for Poster Presentation at the Final ear Research Conference in 2017.
Gary is keen to develop his skills in the field of structural engineering and work towards the goal of becoming a Chartered Professional Engineer.
